Jacket Part7: Finish!
Heyhey,
so I finished my jacket. How is yours coming along. I really like it, even though the sleeves are a little short, but still ok, so I dont have to worry to much, but if I will use that pattern again I will make the sleeves longer.
Well here is how to get the lining into the jacket: (or at least how I do it)
pin the lining to the jacket, starting at the neck, right side to right side Read the rest of this entry
Jacket Part6: sleeves and lining
Heyhey,
so with the sleeves the jacket looks pretty finished and with the finished lining we are down to 2 last parts that need to get connected (next week) I really like my jacket already. Even though I hate sewing this typical lining fabric… its so slippery and unforgiving. But I love jackets and I want to wear it and look nice so it needs a lining, and if I want to wear it not only above tops but also sweaters it needs a lining like that…. so, pulling myself together and forcing myself to sewing lining
but first: sleeves! Read the rest of this entry
Jacket Part5: Zipper, Cuffs and collar
Heyhey,
thank you all for your votes which zipper I should use, as most of you said, I put the green one in and it really starts looking like a jacket
just look at the last picture
start with your sleeves and a really wide stitch… and only this time no securing the end, but keep long threads Read the rest of this entry
which zipper for the jacket do you like better?
Heyhey,
I got my other zipper, I really start liking fadenversand, this time they put a little candy in the letter. Isnt that cute? Well anyhow now I have to decide which zipper I want to use, what do you think?

Looking forward to your help with this decision.

Jacket Part4: Waistband, Collar and Pockets
Heyhey,
so you and I wanted pockets in my jacket and it has pockets now.
This were my next steps:

I do my pockets in my side-seams, because its easy and doesn’t change the look of the jacket, because its almost invisible. Go at least 4cm up from the edge, so you have some corner to keep your stuff in the pocket and it wont drop out of it easily. Read the rest of this entry
the adventures of me finding a zipper for the jacket
Heyhey,
when I went to the local sewing store and bought the interlining for the jacket I wanted to buy a zipper for it as well… the jacket is short so I wanted a separable zipper only 20cm long. I got told something like that doesnt exist. Uhm well, I didnt believe that, so I asked my friend the internet
and big surprise I found some at fadenversand, since its always difficult to find the right color on a screen I ordered a greenish one fitting the jacket (if the color was displayed right) and a white one… since there is white in the check. The white one got to me to day… and a small gift. Its not like I dont have any seam rippers, but I just thought it was a nice gesture, I am not used to that anymore… what about you?
next sewing steps of the jacket will be uploaded tuesday.

Jacket Part3: interlining, first seams and a question
Heyhey,
you all entered the lottery?
I finally bought some fusible interlining, 1m of Vlieseline H200, because it isn’t to stiff but neither to soft… but if you have a different fabric some other might work better for you.
Jacket Part2: Cutting
Heyhey,
so here is part2 for the jacket:
part 1 here
I am doing my jacket in 2 different fabrics: fake-leather for bodice and sleeves, and check for the facing and collar and the cuffs, and the yellow lining Read the rest of this entry
Jacket Part1: Pattern
Heyhey,
so when I let you vote what tutorial I should do next you voted for a dress, which I already did (link) and second place: a jacket. So a jacket is a big project, especially with lining, so I decided to split it up in parts, this way you can sew it along with me if you like. Ill get you new parts at least once a week. With this one I decided for a old burda-pattern
this one is no. 131 of burda magazine 1/2005. Maybe you pick an similar jacket, but even if yours is different lots of the things I show you with this jacket will apply to yours as well. and if there are any troubles with your jacket, that I dont explain with this one are most welcome, and I do my very best to answer them.
