dungarees almost finished…?

Heyhey,

my dungarees are only missing the last 2 buttons, if I base it on the drawing, but I am not sure, maybe its a little plain? and I dont know if it is just me, but I feel waist high pants always emphasize that my length from waist to behind is longer then normal… or my waist is located to high or whatever is the best way to call it.

I have this brown ribbon and I thought maybe I could make the pants less plain and also the length above my behind a little shorter, so I copied the drawing (only black and white) and drew on some possible placings for the ribbon.

what do you think? I really would appreciate your opinion!

  1. Pants fit is always tricky. Its something I’ve studied a bit because I wear pants daily and want to make my own pants that fit me well more often. I have a book on fitting pants by Singer, and its an older book that deals with fitting “traditional” pants. By that I mean pants that fit high to the waist as yours do. I think that the pants you made fit you well, however I think that the problem you perceive as a long waist is due to excessive tightness in the area between the waist and behind. This is also reflected in the fit in the front of the pants as indicated by the fabric pull lines across the pelvis. Otherwise its a good effort. In my experience making perfect pants is a matter of trial and error.

    • I think you misunderstood my question, I was just asking if I should add ribbon or leave it the way it is. πŸ˜‰ I am actually not sure if I should be offended that you criticize my fit, but I prefer to take this positive: you are just trying to help. The issues you are describing actually result partly in me wearing thick panty-hoses when I took the picture, (I was wearing a skirt today) and that I picked the wrong fabric for this project, its a little to soft, to stretchy and to thin, and this way it shows of everything I wear beneath and where its crooked and where my love-handles are. πŸ˜‰ But the general fit is great. I am planning on doing another one of those with a better fitting fabric. So did you manage to make your perfect pants yet?

    • you mean like in the drawing with the flower print blouse? yeah maybe, I will try that. πŸ™‚ So your saying, I should keep it like it is?
In the middle of the process I was pretty unhappy with this pants, the fabric I used just isn’t the best for this project, but now I am actually surprised how much I still like it.
