I do the same tour I tried last year: Charlotte, Button and I cycle the NaturlandetRundt in Denmark. You can read all about my trip so far here: day0, day1, day2, day3, day4, day5, day6, day7, day8, day9, day10
Today Charlotte got dismembered, fixed and put back together. Let’s hope this works for at least 2000km again. 😉 And not just 14 like yesterday, when I tried this alone.
But let us start at the beginning:
When I noticed 2 nights ago, Charlotte had a flat back tire I was mostly annoyed, because I had just felt that we were on a good pace and we could be fine for the last few days. And with myself for not noticing earlier or I could have tried to fix it that afternoon. Well then I had to wait for the morning or I probably would have worked until late at night. Those things always need more time than anticipated.
The next morning I started early, and thought I had found the culprit really soon.
But actually that wasn’t it. the protection was not punctured there…
Then I found a hole in the tube and patched it up and thought “that was easy and fast”. But sadly there must have been at least a second hole, which I could not find…
Now the next problem arose: I had a lot of tools with me, but none to loosen the wheel. I even tried to lengthen my pliers so I would have more leverage, but nothing worked

So I tried to wrap the whole tube in duct tape, so I could at least cycle on it until I found someone to help me
That is when a kind man entered the campground to empty the trash cans and borrowed me his tool. And then when he had to leave, he said he would retire in 7 days anyways and I should keep it

So now I was able to get the tire and tube off.

The red one is the protective inlay.
Now I got the new tube in, packed all my gear up and left the campground just 2 hours later than usual. I was always checking the wheel, but everything seemed ok, until 14km in Vester Kippinge it was not, and the back wheel was flat again. 😦
So now I pushed Charlotte 3km to Øster Kippinge to get some puncture fixing spray at an gas station. Well I tried, and tried, and tried… but it did not work. I needed a new tube. Not having a spare anymore, and without any other stores in those 2 towns I pushed Charlotte 7km to Nørre Alslev. Sadly the shops there neither had any tubes.
Then I called the bicycle travel insurance to check if they could help me. They said they would pay my trip to a store or helpful person. Next I called at the Campground I wanted to reach that day, asking if they would be able to help me, but they said better to take the train to Nykøbing. So I pushed on to the train station. Luckily enough it was easy to buy our tickets from a machine. But then I had to get Charlotte up 4 stairs into the train. I had to deload her very quickly to get everything into the train. 10 minutes later we reached Nykøbing, where I pushed some more km until I reached the campground. I remembered the owner or manager from last year as a nice and kind man, and he still is. He offered me a cabin for a fair price and said he would help me today, to get my bike fixed.
So I took a much needed shower and went to sleep.

This morning I slept a little longer, but after washing the dishes I packed my tools and Charlotte and went to the Reception. The nice owner said to take the wheel off, which I could not fully accomplish, but he helped with the last problem. Then he called a nearby bicycle shop, if they could help me and then send me on my way, with Charlotte’s wheel. He even wanted to loan me his own bicycle, but I rather walked. At the shop they said it would take 30 minutes, but they only take cash. So I walked into the cities center to find an ATM.

Then I walked back and got a full fixed wheel from the nice guy at the shop in his cellar.

Back at the campground I put the wheel back in Charlottes frame. And then went grocery shopping. The rest of the day I spend resting. 😉
We cycled yesterday:

The yellow line from the same beginning as the pink line. The stripes are walking and the dots the train ride.

This is just until the shops in Nørre Alslev.
