how to sew a maxi skirt with pockets: cutting and pockets

Heyhey,

so I am starting with the next tutorial for a maxi skirt, for all of you who have been reading my blog in the last months there might be same parts, you already seen and read before, but since I made so many pictures I decided to make another tutorial anyhow. 😉

I used the pattern of the red maxi skirt, how I made that and the pattern it is based on can be found here.

DSCF5187Since I made the skirt of corduroy I had to cut all pattern pieces in the same direction, and the fabric wasn’t wide enough, so

DSCF5188I cut it 3 times right under each other in fold

DSCF5189and then I put the rests above each other (minding it is still all the same direction) and cut it a 4th time, I needed about 3m in total

DSCF5190now I picked another rest with a fold and folded it over so its 4 layers

DSCF5191then I placed the top of the skirt part on it, the fold will be the bottom of the pockets, so I tested with my hand how big I wanted the pockets to be

DSCF5192now I took 2 skirt parts and placed the button parts unfolded right side on right on top

DSCF5193now I put the skirt parts right sides facing each other on top of each other, the pockets parts sandwiched in between, wrong sides facing each other

DSCF5194now I tested how big the opening for the pockets need to be

DSCF5195drew a line on

DSCF5196pinned all 4 layers and cut

DSCF5200then I sewed each pocket part to the skirt part

DSCF5201cut in at the seam allowance at the curve

DSCF5202folded it over and ironed

DSCF5203then folded the pocket back up

I hope this was helpful! If there are any question please let me know!

Next monday I  will show you the next steps!

keep sewing and smiling

  1. Hi, I’d love to see the pattern but the link didn’t work for me. Is it a free one? Can you provide the url? Thanks! Great skirt!
