how to make a flap skirt: cutting and first seams

Heyhey,

so here are the next steps of the crazy print skirt, the pattern can be found here.

DSCF5027I folded the fabric parallel to the selvedges at a good place in the print, and ironed that fold, then  I placed the skirt pattern right at the fold, pinned and cut

DSCF5028now I took the new cut piece and placed it again on the fabric (I used about 3m) and made sure the print will be the same on both pieces

DSCF5029next I cut the flap in fold

DSCF5030folded it open and placed it on the fabric to match up the fabric for the second part

DSCF5031now I sewed into the left side seam an invisible zipper, tutorials on how to sew in and invisible zipper can be found here and here. then I sewed the other side seam

DSCF5032and because my fabric is fraying quite a bit, I used my serger on the seam allowances of my side seams, be smarter then me and serge the left side seam (the one with the zipper) before you put the zipper in, each edge for itself

DSCF5034now I pinned the flap together, the bottom end stays open, same as the lowest 4 cm of the sides

DSCF5035sew and cut of the corners, then turn the right side out and iron the seams

DSCF5036you start getting a picture of what it will look like!

I hope this was helpful, if there are any questions, please let me know, so I can get better in this and write more helpful tutorials!

keep sewing and smiling
