Button, Charlotte and I are still on our tour on the Leine-Heide-Radweg. (day1) Well actually, today I again cycled a different route. But more about that later 😉
In general, it was good today that I know the second and third day to be the worst. Everything hurts and is difficult, and because of that, your head tells you to just quit. On the fourth day, your body gets used to it.
Packing, as usual, took more time than anticipated. The fighting bicycle-touring-couple seemed to have more experience… or just are better with this and left before me. I finally started at 10:05, only to stop at the office to wait until I could enter (masked of course) and pay my bill and ask for directions. She kindly gave me a map, which was very helpful. Of course, by then the rain had started again, and after an outfit-adjustment, we went on our way.
In the town Welle (the German word for wave) we stopped for our first break:
17.31km in 1:16:11
Staying in the general direction towards Schneverding and Soltau I thought I would soon meet up with the bicycle route. It took some more km than I thought but finally:
29.32 km in 2:10:00h
While standing there, I noticed a little mouse getting some plants probably to make its house better. I tried to take a picture of it, but it was too far away from my cellphone to take a decent picture.
So after just a few minutes cycling, I had to stop again and take some pictures to show you why they call the bicycle route Leine-Heide. This is the Heide:
It is this particular kind of flat land with special plants that look stunningly beautiful when blooming. Its also a nature preserve.
I got closer to Soltau, so I guess it was natural to get to a sign to the Heidepark, too bad it is closed because of the pandemic. (it is an amusement park) Anyways I took another break at that sign:
42.03 km in 3:01:15
Just 3km later I found a camping ground that let me stay (in the office you have to wear masks again). Oh and here you also have to wear masks in the restrooms and the other facilities.
Just in case you are interested how I live in my tent, I took some pictures of it.

The day on a map and in numbers:
(yellow line)
45.50km in 3:18:02h, which means even with my legs hurting I got my average speed up to 13.80 km/h. (which is still very slow)
Total km so far: 114,89
The campsite yesterday did cost me 13€, I also had to add more high-speed internet to my cellphone for 5 €.
Buttons favourite part of the day: those women passing us here at the campsite musing about his seat on Charlotte without knowing we were inside the tent.
Charlotte’s favourite part of the day: the man passing noticing her bamboo frame
My favourite part of the day: I did not get lost once and when I reached the campground.
I will write again tomorrow, so you can pedal this adventure with me.
keep exploring and smiling
