Charlotte, Button and I are cycling the Danish Baltic Bicycle Route. (Day0, Day1, Day2, Day3, Day4)
A few day without ferry rides ahead. 🙂 I mean I like boats and for that also ferrys, but while a bicycle tour it is kind of annoying to always plan with the next ferry.
Today started well, nice ferry ride, then wind from the back and sunshine and then it got exhausting. We changed directions following the coast line and the wind stayed the same… so it became a strong headwind.
I slept ok through a rainy night, woke up early, even though not as early as the last days, packed everything up after a breakfast, wanted to do my laundry just before we leave… and the bathrooms were closed for cleaning. If I do laundry in the morning and put it in my self-sewn bag on top of the back panniers, it is already pretty dry when I hang it up at the campground.
I left the campground about 10:30 and reached the ferry terminal in just a few meters. Where I bought us tickets at a machine, which worked fine. We started at 11:15 and reached the destination at 12. Where I started cycling until the first nice rest spot. I always feel weird eating my food on the ferry if they are selling their own food.
Sadly I forgot to take a picture, but it was a nice park in a cute town, with outdoor exercise equipment and shelters for wanderers or bicyclists.
Now we cycled nice silent roads with wind from the back to the city of Nakskov. Which was very picturesque. We stopped at the first supermarket. 😉 Even though it did not look like a supermarket to me:
So I bought myself some new glutenfree oats, some sirup, more berries, a chocolate milk, dried mango and rice waffles. The berries and the chocolate milk I finished right outside, before I packed up the rest and started cycling again.
Now the difficult part started. We went on nice roads, mostly right at the waterfront, but now it was headwinds or strong sidewinds. It was really pretty but so exhausting… and no more nice break spots.
So we powered on and reached the town the map said had a campground… but they did not. They only had a shelter spot for bicyclist. Which looked nice, but I did not had packed enough water for this. So I asked a couple walking their dog, and he just wanted to send me to that bicyclists shelter/camp spot and she seemed angry about something… Anyways, finally he said there was a campground about 4km away. So we fought the winds once more and reached the campground. Walking into the office, guess who I am seeing? The man of the couple from the Netherlands… 😉 I wonder if it will stay like that or if one of us will leave the other(s) behind at some point.
Then I pitched my tent and finally did laundry… I hope it drys up enough before I go to bed. I have learned not to let things outside for the night. They won’t dry inside the tent, but outside they might get a lot wetter…
We cycled today:
I totally forgot I had this map too
~37 km
Total km on this tour so far: ~159km
money spent:
122 DKK for the campground
92 DKK for the ferry (82 for me, 10 for Charlotte)
165.80 DKK at the supermarket
I will be writing again tomorrow so you can pedal along with us!
If there is anything you would like to know about, please do not hesitate to ask. I am happy to include your interest in my reports if possible.
keep exploring and smiling
